We're On the Brink
The fate of humanity is in our hands. We stand at the precipice of at least three possible futures:
- The decline and extinction of humanity through a physical-material world catastrophe (take your pick from climate change, nuclear war, global pandemic or other unhappy end),
- The loss of our humanity through a takeover by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the algorhythms machine learning can eventually create without human input, or
- A revolutionary evolution of human consciousness where we as a species choose to thrive—together.
Die, Survive or Thrive?
To the pessimistic Social Darwinists out there who believe only the fittest humans should survive: You would benefit from studying Charles Darwin more closely (On the Origin of Species, 1859).
Darwin wrote more about cooperation than competition and also studied human emotions and bonding. In fact, Darwin was not the one who coined the term "survival of the fittest." It was Herbert Spencer, in his "Principles of Biology" (1864), and Alfred Wallace helped to promote that idea.
Charles Darwin concluded:
It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”
It's Time We Respond to Change, especially the changes we have brought on ourselves and the planet through our own thoughts and actions as a species.
We Have the Power
For the first time in our history, we will decide what we experience next as a species. Our next evolutionary phase is not based on our genes. It's based on what we think, feel, and do with the possibilities we create.
We get to choose what the New Human will be.
Every human being lives by the stories we believe in. The old stories have brought us to this brink. The old stories divide us and no longer point a way forward for all humanity.
It's Time to Create a New Story by which We All Can Live. A story based on universal principles, universal truths, universal values, and the glue that holds all of reality together: Love.
It's time we evolve from Homo sapiens ("wise human") into Homo amor ("love human").
